Optic Fiber Patch Cord
Optic fiber patch cords are cables used to connect optical devices for high-speed data transmission. They consist of a fiber optic core with connectors on both ends, enabling efficient signal transfer with minimal loss. Commonly used in networking, telecom, and data centers, they support high bandwidth and long-distance communication.
Fiber optic patch cords are essential components in optical network systems, used to connect end devices like switches, transceivers, and patch panels. We have different types of Patch Cords that are differentiated by these specifications
1. By Connector Type (Both Ends)
These define how the patch cord interfaces with devices:
SC to SC – Standard square connectors, often used in data centers.
LC to LC – Small form factor, widely used in high-density connections.
ST to ST – Bayonet-style connectors, often used in legacy systems.
FC to FC – Threaded connectors, ideal for high-vibration environments.
SC to LC – Hybrid patch cord for connecting different connector types.
SC to ST, LC to ST, FC to SC, FC to LC, etc. – Other hybrid combinations.

2. By Fiber Mode Type
This determines the speed and distance capabilities:
Single-Mode (OS1/OS2) – For long-distance transmissions (yellow jackets).
Multi-Mode OM1 (62.5/125 µm) – Short-range, legacy systems (orange).
Multi-Mode OM2 (50/125 µm) – Improved performance (orange).
Multi-Mode OM3 (Laser-optimized) – High-speed up to 10Gbps (aqua).
Multi-Mode OM4 – Enhanced OM3, for 40/100Gbps (aqua/violet).
Multi-Mode OM5 – Supports SWDM, higher bandwidth (lime green).
3. By Polish Type (End Face Finish)
This affects insertion loss and reflectance:
UPC (Ultra Physical Contact) – Low insertion loss, used in most standard connections.
APC (Angled Physical Contact) – Angled end face, used for high precision and low back reflection (usually green connectors).
4. By Cable Structure
This refers to the physical build of the patch cord:
Simplex – One fiber, one connector per end.
Duplex – Two fibers, often used for bidirectional data transmission.
Armored Patch Cords – Metal-sheathed for extra protection in harsh environments.
Unarmored Patch Cords – Flexible, standard indoor use.
Uniboot Cables – Compact design, two fibers in a single jacket (LC connectors).
Available Lengths:
Fiber optic patch cords are available in a range of lengths to accommodate various installation requirements. Standard lengths include 1 meter, 3 meters, 5 meters, 10 meters, and 20 meters, with custom lengths also available for specific setups. Choosing the appropriate length ensures a tidy and efficient installation while minimizing signal loss and slack. These patch cords are typically color-coded (yellow for single-mode, orange or aqua for multi-mode) to simplify identification and maintenance in network environments.
